FAURE REQUIEM SCHEDULED FOR MAY 15 IN HILLIARD
Musicians from the Greater Columbus community will join the Chancel Choir of Resurrection Lutheran Church to perform Gabriel Faure's famed Requiem on Friday evening, May 15, 2009. The performance will take place at 8 p.m. at the church, located at 3500 Main Street, Hilliard, Ohio.
"We are thrilled to have so many accomplished singers and orchestral musicians joining our church choir to perform the Requiem," says Brandon Hollihan, music director at the church and conductor of the Requiem. "Members of the Columbus Opera Chorus, alumni from The Ohio State University School of Music and the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, and current OSU students all will take part.
"The evening will speak to the wonderful resources we have as musicians here in Columbus," Hollihan adds. "It's a pleasure to make music with these talented singers and players."
First performed in 1888, Faure's Requiem quickly gained status as an outstanding choral work with broad appeal to audiences. "One of the great things about Faure's Requiem is its accessibility," Hollihan adds. "This is a work to be performed and appreciated by professional and amateur musicians alike."
The evening also will include choral selections by Mendelssohn, Mozart, and local Columbus composer and arranger Robert Nugent. There is no admission fee for the performance, although a free will offering will be accepted at the end of the evening.
More information is available by calling the church office at 614-876-7926 or by contacting Hollihan at 513-348-8326.
