Runner: The Quest for Ohio, An Underground Railroad Learning and Arts Experience

10/18/2009
Angela T. Powell, M.D., will read Runner: The Quest for Ohio, an Underground Railroad tale written by Terri Cartwright. Using found objects and natural elements, children 4 - 12 will then create freedom dioramas that make real a fugitive's escape from bondage. Dr. Powell will also present and discuss her own diorama creations.

This program was devised by Dr. Powell to illustrate a scene from a story about escaping slavery, but it has developed into a gateway activity to introduce young artists to possibilities and limitless ideas in the arts.
