Exhibition: New Works by Chris Gustin

Presented by Sherrie Gallerie
10/2/2009 - 11/8/2009
Wood-fired ceramics.
My work is all about volume, the space contained within the pot. Sometimes I enclose it, and other times I reveal it. Pots are made of volumes; volumes are defined by curves, and curves are expressed in pots by silhouette and contour. How the silhouette moves from convex to concave, how the line of the silhouette expresses itself as either fast or slow and how it generates 'speed' as it moves from foot to rim, all relate to how our bodies move through space. This innate connection is for me the primal language of ceramic vessel form. It has the potential to reflect our universal human story, regardless of politics, culture or history.
