Leah Wong majored in oil painting and received her BFA from the China Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. She also holds an MFA in painting from Ohio University in Athens. She is currently an adjunct professor at Columbus College of Art and Design. This exhibition marks her second at Sherrie Gallerie.

"In the past two years, I have traveled through several countries, visited many cities and lived in Taiwan for eight months. When composing a painting, I like to consider the ground as an open space-top to bottom, left to right-sort of like viewing the sky and ocean at the same time. After layering the ground with gesso, color washes and sometimes paper, I start to draw images on the surface in much the same way that a write makes notes. My overall visual strategy is often related to Chinese traditional landscape painting, using a mist perspective instead of a foreshortened perspective. Within a body of images, I use multiple viewpoints and put each image in its own place, building up information in layers of images, patterns, marks, and gestures. I want to create an energetic moment, sometimes with a sense of orderly chaos.
